About the Theatre

In almost constant operation as a cinema house for over 70 years, the Rio Grande Theatre was renovated and reopened in 2005 by the Doña Ana Arts Council. Completely refurbished as a 422-seat, state-of-the-art performing arts facility in the heart of downtown Las Cruces, the Arts Council managed the theatre until July, 2017 when management was taken over by the City of Las Cruces.

Among the many performers and artists who have graced her stage are piano virtuoso George Winston, dance phenomenon the Moscow Ballet, folk legend Janis Ian, the world famous Glenn Miller Orchestra, the internationally renowned Vienna Boys Choir and many, many more.

The only remaining two-story adobe theatre in the country, the Rio Grande Theatre is once again a focal point of history as the jewel in the crown of downtown Las Cruces’ revitalization.
