Kirschbaum, Kimberly

Art mediums: Pastels, Colored pencil (Prismacolor), and Graphite.

Artist’s Statement: One of the best things my mother ever said to me was, “Kim, you see things quite differently than other people do.” That statement pleased me since I often see everyday magic in my surroundings. I enjoy working in dry mediums, primarily buttery pastels, delicate colored pencil, and expressive graphite. Affording myself of these challenging materials, I infuse unexpected color, evocative atmosphere, and joy in the creative process into my work. As Impressionist Pierre-Auguste Renoir famously commented: “To my mind, a picture should be something pleasant, cheerful, and pretty, yes pretty! There are too many unpleasant things in life as it is without creating still more of them.”

In 2022 we will be highlighting artwork created by our young people. This month we are showcasing the 2022 Las Cruces Space Festival poster contest. Las Cruces Public School K-12 students designed posters with the theme “Future Careers in Space.” The Festival Committee received over 1000 entries that the Challenger Learning Center of Las Cruces narrowed down to 30 finalists that can be viewed by going to this link
