The ZAPP® System from the The Western States Arts Federation (WESTAF)

ZAPP enables artists to apply online to multiple art shows through one central website, ZAPPlication.org. The online application process also allows artists to directly upload digital images of their artwork for jury review. The result is that all artwork in the system is in a consistent, high-quality, digital format. The digital images are presented to the jurors of each show and the system allows them to score online.

Artist INC Express Worshop arrives in Las Cruces

April 6 and 7, 2024

The Artist INC Express workshop came to Las Cruces on April 6 and 7, 2024. Brought to Las Cruces through the support of New Mexico Arts and hosted by the Doña Ana Arts Council, this free workshop helps artists, of any discipline, develop the building blocks for a thriving and enduring arts practice. I am writing today to ask for your help in spreading the word about this opportunity to artists in the Las Cruces community.

Led by a team of experienced, working artists, this ten-hour, hands-on workshop helps artists address specific needs and challenges they face throughout their careers. Through discussions, activities, and hands-on exercises, artist-peer-facilitators, and a new network of peer artists, participating artists are supported in setting goals for their practices, writing about their work, and building a personal brand.

Artist INC Express is a slimmed down, yet still highly active, version of the popular eight-week Artist INC Live program, which has been completed by more than 2,000 artists since 2009. Artist INC Express explores those same core concepts of how to build a lasting arts practice in a shorter, more flexible format, to help reach a broader audience of artists.

New Mexico Arts brought five sessions of the Artist INC Express virtual workshop to artists across the state in 2023.  Back by popular demand, New Mexico Arts is bringing the in-person version of the workshop to various locations across the state in 2024, including Las Cruces.  Here are some participant responses to the 2023 workshops:

Artist INC Express really gave me some direction, which is exactly what I needed. It gave me specific things that I KNOW I can apply to promote my work successfully. I think most artists need this kind of direction.

I am aware that programs like these are not typically free and are usually through grant or fellowship programs, so I am grateful for the State of New Mexico for offering this for free to artists at all levels and in different disciplines. It provided excellent information, and made it very accessible.

I would recommend the Artist INC Express program because it was an engaging way to connect with other regional artists. It was structured enough to include insights to other participants’ approaches to their practices, without becoming overwhelming or boring. There was an adequate variety of creative practices among the facilitators to address the variety of participants’ fields. It felt like a safe space to share, be vulnerable, and gain advice and support.

I appreciated that the facilitators had varied experiences and practices, but all had such generous hearts and were very real and eloquent.

Thank you for creating such a welcoming and encouraging program that can be applied to a variety of practices. I am leaving with new found inspiration and hope for my creative future!
