Six Week Art History Class - In Depth Study of Georgia O'Keefe

 Arts for ALL!

The Doña Ana Arts Council is thrilled to partner up with the ARTE institute to feed your minds with six weekly in-person art history classes at 230 S. Water St. Las Cruces, NM. We are excited to collaborate with Kathleen Albers, past executive director of the DAAC, and Kathleen Key, art historian.

Albers and Key are the founders of the ARTE (Art, Research, Travel, and Education) Institute. Not only will you feed your mind for six weeks, but you will also have the opportunity to experience the great works of art through an in-person ARTE adventure trip. ARTE’s mission is to create exceptional educational opportunities for lifelong learners, a goal that is closely aligned with the Arts Council’s mission.

“We are very excited to be collaborating with the Arts Council this summer and look forward to more in the future,” stated Albers.

Key shares, “There is no real contest, Georgia O’Keeffe is indeed the greatest American artist of all time! And to think she considered the state of New Mexico her home for almost 60 years, that is even more incredible!”

The class is an in-depth study of Georgia O’Keeffe’s incredible artwork and her incredible life. The structure of the class will be to compare the artwork of European and American artists who were working at the same time as O’Keeffe.

“Comparing O’Keeffe’s work to the top artists of Europe and America reveals how exceptional and original she really was!” explains Key. “It is our goal for you to study her career beginning in 1915 to her last days in Santa Fe. We will also study the work of her greatest teacher, Arthur Wesley Dow and the work of her husband, photographer Alfred Stieglitz. Several recent exhibits showcase her fashion style and clothing and her homes in Abiquiu and Ghost Ranch –so we will cover those as well.”

The ARTE Kick-off party will be Tuesday, June 13th from 4-5:30pm at the DAAC gallery. Sessions will be every Monday beginning June 19th through July 21st from 4-5:30pm. Pick up a registration form at the DAAC office.

For more information, contact kathleenalbers@arteadventures.com or kathleenkey@arteadventures.com Registration fees as follows: $245 per person (unlimited all access for all in-person & zoom), $195 per person (a la carte price per course). DAAC members receive 10% off your registration fee.

The ZAPP® System from the The Western States Arts Federation (WESTAF)

ZAPP enables artists to apply online to multiple art shows through one central website, ZAPPlication.org. The online application process also allows artists to directly upload digital images of their artwork for jury review. The result is that all artwork in the system is in a consistent, high-quality, digital format. The digital images are presented to the jurors of each show and the system allows them to score online.
