The Doña Ana Arts Council is happy to announce that Christa Fredrickson is the first artist to be recognized in 2021, The Year of the Artist.
Each month in 2021, a different artist category will be highlighted. In January, we are honoring performing artists.
Christa Fredrickson received her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and a Masters of Music in Choral Conducting from New Mexico State University. She currently teaches choir and AP music theory at Centennial High School and theatre at NMSU.
Recently, Christa was named the Emerging Music Educator for the Southwest District. Christa is passionately committed to promoting the performing arts and improving the lives of those she serves. She has taken the Centennial High School music program from a half-time position with two choirs to a full-time job with five ensembles and an AP music theory program. The treble choir, Bella Voce, was named the State Honor Choir for 2021 and will perform in the NMMEA virtual conference on January 9, 2021.
Christa serves as the Southwest Choral Vice President for New Mexico Music Educators Association and is also the co-director for Mesilla Valley Teen Singers. She composes and directs the summer Opera Storytellers Camp for the Doña Ana Arts Council and finds time to be involved in many Las Cruces Community productions.
Christa has conducted nationally and internationally, including Carnegie Hall in New York City, Mexico and Europe.
