Day of the Dead Altar Building Workshop
Altars for deceased friends, loved ones, pets, celebrities are constructed to honor and in memory of those we have lost. The elemental idea being that if a person is remembered they are never really gone.
Members of the Calavera Colalition (organizers of the annual celebration on Mesilla Plaza) will be providing information around the composition and tradition of altars. There are customary altar elements that will be discussed and then we will each make our own altar. No two altars are alike and there is no right or wrong in the composition, altars come from the heart.
We will be providing supplies used to build a 14″ by 9″ altar in a box setting that can be taken home and embellished with personal items such as photos, momentos and favorite foods. We will supply boxes, artificial flowers, skeletons, candles (battery) and decorations, along with tools & adhesives needed. And lots of fun! If you already have some personal items for your altar please bring them along and incorporate them into your project.
To Remember is to Live
