Courtesy of the Dona Ana Arts Council, this series is being offered at no-charge, on-line via ZOOM as a gift to the community during the time of Coronavirus.  Thursdays, May 14 – June 18, from 5:30 – 7 P.M.  Registration required to receive a ZOOM meeting invitation prior to each session.

American Art will explore visual arts of the United States including painting, sculpture, architecture, photography and design.

Course Description:  What better and more fun way to learn about our nation and our nation’s character than through its incredible art work?  Many of us know the riches of European art from the Renaissance and Baroque eras to the glories of 19th century Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, but we are sorely lacking when it comes to an understanding of American art.  How did art made in the USA – painting, sculpture, architecture, photography and more – come to embody the American experience?  One question surely would be, is there a difference between European art and American art?  Come join us for six weeks of lectures and lively discussion.

The American Art series will be on six consecutive Thursdays from 5:30 – 7 p.m. on May 14, 21, 28 and June 4, 11 and 18.  Pre-registration is required to receive a Zoom invitation to attend.

This seminar is taught by art historian and world traveler Kathleen Key. In addition to teaching many art history seminars at the Dona Ana Arts and Cultural Center, Kathleen is a professor of art history at the University of Texas at El Paso and the OLLI Continuing Education Program at UTEP.
